BIOGRAPHY |
Peter Budd is a Professor of Polymer Chemistry at the University of Manchester and is Director of Research within the School of Chemistry. Peter Budd was born in 1957 in Asmara, Eritrea. During his childhood he lived for periods in the UK and for periods abroad (Aden and Asmara). He went to School in London (St Mary's Primary School, Finchley, 1963-1968), Asmara (M.E.G.M. English School, 1968-1972) and Ramsgate (St. Lawrence College, 1972-1975). He obtained a first class honours BSc in Chemistry from the University of Manchester in 1978, and a PhD from the same institution in 1981. After eight years working as a Research Chemist at the BP Research Centre in Sunbury-on-Thames, he returned to the University of Manchester in 1989 as a lecturer. He met Alma whilst they were students at University and they were married in 1982. Outside of work, they enjoy walking and scrambling over mountains (especially in the English Lake District), travel and birdwatching. They are Christians and are members of St. Andrew's Church, Cheadle Hulme, where Peter is a lay Reader.
