To test thermo time switch: 1.Make sure engine coolant temperature is below 30c (86F) Preferably engine should sit for several hours. 2.Disconnect coil wire from the center tower of the distributer cap and connect it to ground, using a jumper wire if necessary. 3.Disconnect the cold-start valve harness connector and connect a test light across the connector terminals as shown in pic 1. 4.Actuate the starter while observing the test light. the test lightshould light for several seconds, then go out. the amount of time that the light stays on depends on coolant temperature. see graph (pic2) to replace swithc drain coolant, using thread sealant torque new switch to 30Nm, refill with coolant. Note: if test light does not light, voltage is either not reaching connector due to faulty wiring or faulty switch. To test cold start valve: 1.same as 1. above 2. remove screws holding cold start valve to intake manifold. without disconnecting fuel line or harness connector remove cold start valve. 3. same as 2. above 4.on 16valves connect jumper wire the metal cold start valve housing to ground 5. wipe dry nozzle of cold start valve. point valve into transparent container and have someone actuate starter. valve should spray fuel in even cone shaped pattern. irregular pattern means dirty or faulty valve 6.wipe nozzle dry, valve should not drip for at least a minute. if it does its faulty. when replacing valve replace sealing washers either side of fuel line fitting, torque fuel line bolts and valve bolts to 10Nm
